Blog Post Week 3
What did I learn this week?
This week, I learned that there are two cycles in the metamorphosis cycle. Metamorphosis happens during the life cycle. An incomplete metamorphic cycle has three stages; an egg, a nymph, and an adult. A complete cycle occurs through four stages; egg, larva, pupa, and adult. We created a complete life cycle in class, and my group chose a frog. A frog's metamorphic life cycle is complete because it contains four stages.
Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already know?
In previous years, I knew that scientists genetically modify plants to grow bigger and faster to help sustain the world. What I learned this week is that scientists also use fast plants, a rapid-cycling form of the species Brassica rapa, for experiments and educational purposes. Fast plants have a short life cycle, they grow in 40 days, allowing for quick observation and study of plant growth and development. This week in class, we used soil, water, fertilizer, and seeds to create our own fast plant.
Hi Kylie, I also have learned about metamorphosis in previous years. I like what you are going to apply in your classroom, and I think I will also use modeling in my lessons and get students to use models for a better understanding of science.
ReplyDeleteHi Kylie, I also learned about the difference of complete and incomplete metamorphosis during this weeks classes. Your creation of the frog life cycle really helped me understand that that it is a complete metamorphosis cycle since it has 4 stages.
