Blog Post Week 9

What did you learn this week?

This week, I learned the importance of Performance Expectations. I learned that the Performance Expectation was a combination of all three dimensions, and they guide students and teachers to develop a true understanding of a concept. Additionally, I learned that teachers need to combine multiple PEs, so students can develop knowledge of a core concept in various situations. I learned that some PEs are similar or are cumulative, so combining them together, helps students develop a deeper understanding of the concept.

How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?

I can apply what I learned to my future teaching by truly understanding the Performance Expectations and seeing what concepts build off of one another. I learned that students cannot develop a concept after one example, so integrating multiple concepts into various situations helps my students actually develop an understanding.

What are new or remaining questions?

A question I still have is how I learn how to let my students collaborate and build their knowledge based off of eachother, but still assess their learning. For example, how do I know when to interfere and teach them a certain phenomenon when they are not gaining a better understanding of the content. With NGSS, it is primarily student-based learning, but in what ways can I as a teacher help guide my students to fully process the content.
