Week 10 blog
What did you learn this week?
This week, we went to School of the Wild and studied science outdoors. I learned about the change in Iowa's landscaping. Iowa has changed from mainly prairie and wetlands to mainly farmland. The farmland has directly affected the water because the pesticides used on the plants flow into the water. Also, birds that are kept at school in the wild if they cannot live in the environment alone. Factors that affect the birds are they being hit by humans, humans keep them as pets, or they are becoming extinct and they want to preserve the bird.
In class, we did an experiment where we used a fork, stick, and spoon to pick up "prey" to show a predator-prey relationship. After each generation, the predator who had the least amount of food "died" and had to adapt to its parent. This shows how natural selection works because "only the fittest survive" and overtime animals adapt to their environment.
Hi Kylie,
ReplyDeleteI really like how you centered your blog post this week over the School of the Wild visit! I haven't gone yet, but after reading your post about all of the new ideas and concepts you learned, I am really looking forward to it! Thanks for your post!
Hi Kylie! I liked how you mentioned your School of the Wild visit, we had so much fun. I liked how you highlighted the Raptor Project, that is such a great way that our community is helping give back. I agree that simulators and videos aren't as interactive but sometimes that's what helps them the most! It is also helpful to go outside your school and talk about the environment around you and your students!
ReplyDeleteHi Kylie! I really enjoyed reading your blog post! This week I also learned a lot from going to the school of wild and I also learned about Iowa's farmlands. I really like your question about how you can still teach your students out in the wild without access to something like the school of wild. That is a very good question and I was wondering the same thing because I don't plan to teach in iowa.
ReplyDeleteHi Kylie, I love what you have mentioned you have learned and how you included the school of the wild and things we did during that visit. I also like how you talked about the raptor project and giving back to the community
ReplyDeleteHi Kylie! I also thought the school of the wild was a very fun and good learning experience! I believe it is very important as future teachers we gain as many different experiences with teaching and learning possible so we can provide our students with well rounded learning experiences! Good post!
ReplyDeleteHi Kylie! I really enjoyed reading about your School of the Wild experience, since I have not gone this week yet it was interesting to get insights on what your group did. I like how you said "only the fittest survive" when talking about the natural selection activity. I think that is a great way to explain it. Great post!
