Week 2: The Final Frontier
Week 2
- What did you learn in Thursday’s discussion? I learned that a Greek astronomer discovered that the Earth is round because they measured the angle of the Earth's shadow.
- What did you learn? On October 4th, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the world's first artificial satellite. This started the space race, because the United States launched Explorer 1, a satellite that discovered the magnetic radiation belts around Earth. In 1962, an American astronaut orbited Earth, in 1968 Apollo 8 orbited the moon, and in 1969 the first two people landed on the moon: Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
- What was most helpful? What was most helpful was that it had additional resources and reflections. The reflections especially help us depict what information we need to retain, and what information we can be less informed about. Also, it was helpful that you had a separate page for definitions, and they had the definitions attached to them.
- What do you need more information on? Why does Mars no longer have conditions for living organisms, and why is the solution for the Earth becoming overpopulated to move to Mars?
5. What questions, concerns, and/or comments do you have? I'm having trouble figuring out how much sunlight, and where the sunlight is coming from, depending on the season. It is hard for me to picture the Earth slanted, where the sunlight is, and how that determines the angle of the shadow.
