Week 5: Galaxies to Black Holes

What did you do in the lab today?

-Today in lab, we listened to groups present about multiple topics. Something I learned is that there are three different types of galaxies; the Milky Way is a Spiral Galaxy. Our Solar System takes 240 million years to orbit the Milky Way.

What was the big question? Timeline of the Universe

What did you learn in Thursday's discussion?

The sun is held together because of its mass, so as it loses heat and light, it has less mass, and then it loses gravity and begins to inflate (red giant)

Textbook:

What did you learn?

The sun can only burn atoms up to Iron. When a star goes supernova, it is so powerful that it builds the rest of the periodic table

What was most helpful?

I think it was most helpful how you split up each concept and told us the definition and the key concepts. I think that is super helpful, that way I know what I need to remember and what I don't need to worry about.

What do you need more information on?

I am still confused about how shadows/phases of the moon work based on where the sun, moon, and Earth are lined up.

What questions, concerns, and/or comments do you have?

N/A
